In the fall of 2000, Dyer Baptist Church initiated a supplemental education opportunity for secondary homeschool students. The program was called Plum Creek Learning Association and included subjects like speech, music, logic, apologetics, zoology, shop, cooking, and physical education. PCLA was a wonderful opportunity for the students, but God had more plans for the education ministry on the banks of Plum Creek.

A special open meeting was held on November 6, 2004, to discuss how a Christian school at Dyer Baptist might work and to determine how many families would be interested.

In that meeting, the following four reasons were given for considering starting a school:

  1. To provide an additional education option to concerned parents in our region

  2. To avail ourselves of the many wonderful ministry opportunities available through such an endeavor

  3. To respond to the desire of a core group of members in the church

  4. To fulfill the responsibility we have to utilize all of our God-given resources and opportunities - James 4:17; Luke 12:48; Matthew 25:24-30

2013 Graduating Kindergarten Class

On February 12, 2006, the members of Dyer Baptist Church voted by a strong majority to start the Plum Creek Christian Preschool in the fall of that year. The deacons, Pastor Atkinson, and Pastor Lee would serve as the school board.

On January 28, 2007, the church voted again and demonstrated overwhelming support for the board’s recommendation to begin adding elementary grades to the preschool. From that time until now, PCCA has been adding grades and creating new classroom almost continually. God has faithfully provided faculty members for each expansion, and the students have continued to come from over towns on both sides of the state line.

In the summer of 2014, an architect was hired and the planning stages of the new building were underway for the eight acres Dyer Baptist Church already owned across the street from the current facilities. Construction started in the tenth year of the Academy's existance, and opened just in time for the 2016-2017school year.

Each year the South Building is almost filled to capacity with children. We praise God for this opportunity to allow children to receive a quality Christian education from loving teachers at Plum Creek.

Once the south building was completed, attention turned to updating the North building. The North Wing was gutted and the floor plan completely rearranged to allow for the three classrooms and hallway out to the playground. In 2018 the West Wing was tackled, which allowed larger space for the 3 year old preschool program. In the summer of 2019, the main hallway in the East Wing was relocated, bathrooms installed, and the classrooms enlarged to standard sizes. During the pandemic of 2020 the downstairs area was updated with new flooring, paint, and doors. The office lobby renovation completes the plan for an updated building with larger hallways and an easier to understand floor plan!

Though no one can predict the future, the faithful God who has led in the past is worthy of trust for the future. May Jesus Christ be praised for all that He has done and will do to enable children to receive a Christian education at Plum Creek!
